Workshop

My workshop, within easy walking distance of the railway station, is located in the historic heart of Saint Brieuc. It faces the cathedral of Saint Étienne, built on a system of piles in the 11th century and fortified in the 13th century. Historically, the rue Fardel was a street of craftsmen, merchants and workers, lined with inns and houses for nobles, city burghers and clerics. Its architecture of clay-filled half-timbering still gives it a distinctly medieval feel. The workshop too is housed in an ancient building – the mantelpiece of the great granite fireplace in my work area even bears a duke’s coat of arms. The soul of this place inspires the concentration and patience I need for my work, which follows the traditions of 18th century instrument-making. Visits are by appointment.
